Description
During the course you will learn how to sharpen wood cutting tools to professional standards and select new or secondhand tools that are well engineered. From this understanding of the importance of tool technology and the acquisition of tool tuning skills, you will be in a position to experience the pleasure of working wood by hand to a finer degree of accuracy and with less effort. Students are advised to bring any tools they have, in whatever condition they may be. If you bring along a lot of tools it is unlikely that you will finish tuning & sharpening them all in the 2 days but you will learn enough to finish them off in your own time.
On average attendees are likely to finish a plane (Jack, Block, shoulder, or rebate), a chisel, a gouge, & a cabinet scraper. If you have them you should bring along whatever whet stones you can. Techniques for making other tools work efficiently e.g. axes, adzes, drawknives, scorps, froes, knives, gardening tools, moulding planes & spokeshaves. If you are not sure what the tools you have are called or what they are used for then bring them along for explanation. Sharpening saws will not be covered on the course.
I recommend that you wear a protective garment to protect your day clothes. Course aprons are available to buy in advance or on the day for £18
The course will run from 10am to 5pm on the first day & 9am to 5pm on the second.
